Gary W. Blohm

“Blohm” as he was affectionately known by all, died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his home, following a very brief illness. Blohm was born in Appleton on September 15, 1951, the son of Carl and Ione (Anthony) Blohm. In his younger years, he was active in Boy Scouts, and achieved his Eagle Scout award. Blohm was also a graduate of Appleton East High School, and on October 1, 1983, married Lisa Ste. Marie. Gary was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include his wife: Lisa J. Blohm; his daughter: Tiffany (Seth) Lathrop; and his special grandson, “That Guy – Carter” with whom he spent countless hours. He is also survived by his siblings: Fran Papenfus, Carl (Connie) Blohm, Jr., Brenda Blohm, and Bonnie (Gene) Hoks; his mother: Ione Blohm; his in-laws: Joanne Ste. Marie and her children Dreux, Terri, and Tim; as well as special nieces and nephews April, Angel, Jolene, and Frank. Blohm was preceded in death by his father Carl Blohm, his father-in-law Vince Ste. Marie, and a brother-in-law Frank Papenfus.

The funeral liturgy for Blohm will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, August 18, 2017 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton on Thursday evening from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of services. Memorial contributions are appreciated. There are people in this life that will never carry an important title, claim to important organizations they have joined, or charities they have served – and yet will be simply good people for just being themselves. It is an honor to pay tribute to people such as these. One of those people is Gary Blohm. While Blohm fought a short, but absolutely nasty battle with cancer, the worst part is the loss for the important people he left behind. Gary was a person that could get along with anybody, have a long conversation with them, and leave them feeling good about things. Blohm was the light of Carter’s life, and he, the Apple of Gary’s eye. Simply said, Blohm was an amazing person. He was a true giant among men and will be greatly missed.
