Gary D. Powell

Age 63, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Appleton Medical Center, following a courageous three-month battle with cancer and two heart attacks. Gary was born in Green Bay on June 21, 1939, the son of Eugene and Muriel (Plog) Powell. On February 9, 1963, Gary married Patricia Bonk in Brookside, Wisconsin; she survives. Gary was employed by S.O.S. Construction in Green Bay. He enjoyed playing bingo, visits to casinos, traveling with Pat, and with his special friends Charlie and Pat. His most cherished times were spent at his place in Sturgeon Bay where he and Pat intended on spending their summers. Survivors include his parents: Eugene and Muriel Powell of Kaukauna; his wife Pat Powell of Kaukauna; a son: James (Mari) Powell and their children Kalyn and James of Kaukauna; a daughter: Christine Powell of Kaukauna; a brother: Ronald (Debbie) Powell of Kaukauna. He is also survived by Pat’s brother and sisters: Clara (Eugene) Leonard, Jenny (Robert) Anderson, Debbie (Billy) Byng, and Donald (Linda) Bonk, as well as his mother-in-law: Genevieve Bonk and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his special pal, Harley, who was at his side day and night. Gary was preceded in death by his father-in-law Henry Bonk.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Walter Steinbach officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

His wife, children and grandchildren meant the world to him; he loved them all so very much, and they will all miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Appleton Medical Center as well as Gary’s many doctors and nurses. You were all so very special; we will never forget your care and concern.
