Fr. Edward P. Kilsdonk

July 20, 1911 — July 14, 2003

Fr. Ed, as he was known to his parishioners, died peacefully and entered eternal life on Monday, July 14, 2003 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. Edward was born in Little Chute on July 20, 1911, son of the late John P. and Sophia (Willemsen) Kilsdonk. He attended Holy Name School in Kimberly, the Salvatorian Seminary in St. Nazianz, and St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Paul P. Rhode in the cathedral in Green Bay on May 22, 1937. He assisted in parishes in Shawano, Chilton, Menasha, and Neenah, and was appointed pastor of St. Patrick Parish in the Waupaca County town of Lebanon (with a mission in Weyauwega) on December 6, 1948. On June 8, 1960, he was transferred to St. Joseph parish in Phlox with a mission parish in Mattoon. While at Phlox, he supervised the construction of an addition to the school as well as the renovation of the sanctuary. On October 8, 1962, he was appointed pastor of St. Francis Church in the town of Holland. Shortly thereafter, work began on the new convent and addition to the school. The church was also redecorated and the sanctuary was renovated under Fr. Ed’s supervision. Father retired on June 8, 1975 and with the help of his parishioners began construction of a home on Harvestore Road where he resided until moving to Appleton on August 24, 1992.

Fr. Ed is survived by a brother, Henry Kilsonk of California as well as a special friend, Mary Roberts of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his parents and by sisters Mary Ann Huhn and Sr. M. Imeldine, O.P.

A Memorial funeral liturgy expressing our faith in the promised glory of our Lord’s resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 18, 2003 at ST. FRANCIS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandtown with the Most Reverend Robert J. Banks, Bishop of Green Bay officiating. Interment will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Little Chute, beside his mother and father.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Cherry Meadows. Your care, love, and compassion were so evident during Father’s stay. Thank you for making Cherry Meadows his home during his final days.
