ULMEN, FLOYD A.

Floyd Ulmen, of Appleton, age 80 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on December 22, 1926 in Appleton, the son of the late Carl and Mary (Young) Ulmen. Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force from February 22, 1945 and retiring on December 31, 1968 serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He enjoyed campfires, spending time at Crooked Lake and gardening. Many will remember Floyd shopping at Kmart and walking his big dogs. Floyd loved playing cards with family and had a great sense of humor. Family and friends will remember his generous gifts for birthdays and Christmas. You could always count on Floyd for any thing someone needed and he treated everyone with equality and respect.

He is survived by his sisters: Dorothy Kugler, Lucille Endter and Alice Smith; sister-in-law: Cora Ulmen; nieces and nephews: Lawrence Kugler, Eileen (Joe) Schmitzer, James Kugler, Diane Kugler, Robert (Naomi) Endter, Mary Biese, Rose Ann (Ron) Thurk, Carol (Bill) O’Neill, Jeff (Paula) Ulmen, David (Chris) Ulmen, George (Barb) Ulmen, Rose Marie (Keith) Coleman, Kathy Ulmen, Sue (Steve) Reuter, Lou Ann Ulmen, Charles (Kelly) Ulmen and Fran (Vern) Horn; special great nephews: Bruce and Kevin Horn and special great great nieces Mariah and Madie Horn. Floyd is further survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law: Lawrence Kugler, Howard Endter and Herbert Smith, his brother Carlton Ulmen and sister Evelyn Westgor.

The funeral liturgy for Floyd will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 10, 2007 at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Interment with full military rites will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease are appreciated.

Floyd was a man of simple means – whose true wealth came from how he loved and how he was loved. He was a treasure and he will be cherished forever.
