Age 91, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 12, 2001. Evelyn was born in Appleton on March 26, 1910, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Williams) Mennen. In May of 1938, Evelyn married Clarence “Nig” Gehrman, and he preceded her in death in 1976. Evelyn had been a resident of Kimberly since the age of three when she and her family lived on North John Street. After her marriage to Clarence, the couple relocated to South John Street in the home where Evelyn has resided ever since. While Clarence was stationed in Texas with the military, Ev worked for the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. She received her training for this position from Bowlby’s Business College in Appleton.

Survivors include a sister: Patricia Lynn of Granada Hills, California; two sisters-in-law: Marion Mennen of Kimberly and Rosie Moleneaux of Naples, Florida; a brother-in-law: Ralph Wildenberg of Kaukauna. Other survivors include Clarence’s brother and sisters: Gordon (Dorothy) Gehrman of Kimberly, Agnes Kneip of Appleton, Hester Gehrman of Kaukauna, and Helen Hanselman of Oklahoma City; and a sister-in-law: Lela Swinford of Winneconne. Ev is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Joseph Mennen and Giles Mennen, sisters Kay Wildenberg and Rita (Raymond) Vanevenhoven, and by brothers-in-law Don Lynn, Norman Kneip, Herman Gehrman and Max (Sally) Gehrman; and by sisters-in-law: Mary (Leo) Swinford and Julie (Bob) Hoskinson.

The funeral liturgy for Evelyn will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Claude Pulvermacher officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home and again Monday at the church from 10 AM until the hour of the service.

The family would like to thank those whose assistance impacted Ev in her later years. They include the volunteers from Meals on Wheels, the visiting nurses, and Millie Wippich who so faithfully took Ev to church. A special thank you to Tom Mennen and Kathy Heinzkill whose dedication and assistance made it possible for Evelyn to stay in her home.
