Eva E. Ostermeier

June 28, 1926 — September 6, 2016

Eva Ostermeier left this world on Tuesday, September 6th with her family by her bedside. Eva Erika Jilg, who turned 90 on June 28, was born in 1926 to Max and Augustine Jilg in the small village of Marienthal, Czechoslovakia. As a child, Eva enjoyed athletics, such as track and field events. After World War II, Eva and her parents became refugees, and moved to Rosenheim, Germany. It was there, when Eva was a young woman, that she began working as an assistant to an eye doctor. She helped care for patients and assisted with surgeries. Eva met her future husband, Kurt, at an Oktoberfest celebration in Rosenheim.

In 1958, Kurt's work opportunities took him to the U.S. and the couple moved to Neenah. A year later, their first child, Peter, was born. Two and a half years later, Mark, was born. Eva devoted her life to caring for her family, including countless family pets; Eva was a lifelong animal lover. Kurt and Eva led an active life and participated in numerous cross-country skiing events, including the World Loppet and Birkebeiner races. The family also spent time together at a cottage in Door County, Wisconsin. After Kurt retired, he and Eva traveled the U.S. in their RV. Eva readily made friends wherever she went.
Eva is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kurt Ostermeier; her sons, Peter Ostermeier (Margaux Oliver) of Indianapolis, IN and Mark Ostermeier (Laurel Ostermeier) of Madison, WI and her grandchildren Sarah Ostermeier (Louisville, KY) and Anna Ostermeier (Madison, WI.)
