Age 77, died Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2003, surrounded by his loving family, at Franciscan Care Center. He was born December 10, 1925 to the late Henry and Theresa (Gruentzel) Bushman in Appleton. He was married to Gladys (Pruess) , on October 27, 1945, she preceded him in death in 1964. In 1965 Gene married Marie (Baumann) Bogenschutz, they lived in Appleton. Gene brought with him two daughters, Judie and Jill, Gene adopted Marie’s six children after they were married, they had a son and daughter together. Gene proudly served in the Merchant Marine during WW II. He was employed by American Can for 42 years. Gene enjoyed fishing, bowling, cribbage, bus trips, and family vacations. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38. Survivors include his wife, Marie, to whom he had been married for 38 years; five daughters, Judie (Arthur) White, Maine; Jill (Don) Miller, Neenah; Karen (Keith) Rupple; Susan Bluma; Mary (Jon) St. Louis, all of Appleton. Five sons, Chris Bushman and his fiancé, Julie McKay; Mark (Amy) Bushman, Appleton; Bob (Gail) Bushman; Tom (Debbie) Bushman, of Neenah; David Bushman and Jean-Jacques, Montreal, Canada; 17 grandchildren, Jim, Scott (Sarah), Paul (Courtney), Angie, Jeff, Jessica, Michael, Ruth, Tony, Greg (Savanna), Cassie, Kim, Jon, Meghan, Caitlin, Mitchell and Eric; four great grandchildren, Alex, Aubrey, Isaac and Shawn. He is also survived by four sisters, MaryAnn LaChapell, Menasha; Virginia Hoerning; Monica VandeVelden, Appleton; Katherine Johnson, Vancouver, B.C.; five brothers, Don (Harriet) Bushman; John (Bernice) Bushman; Joe (Carol) Bushman, all of Appleton; Jim (Emogene) Bushman, Menasha; Clem (Molly) Bushman, California; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Billy Jo Daniels, a brother, Sylvester, brothers-in-law, Russell Hoering, Raymond LaChapell, Joe Baumann, Clem Baumann, Richard Strelka, Claire Baumann, Eugene Weyers, sisters-in-law, Gertrude Decker, Leona Baumann. The funeral liturgy for Eugene will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 8, 2003, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Father Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Burial will be in St. Margaret-Mary Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Thursday and on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass. The American Legion visitation will be at 7:00 pm and the prayer and scripture service will be at 7:30 pm, Thursday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at AMC, Franciscan Care Center, and Father Michael O’Rourke.

Daddy- We love you and will miss you. We are all better because you were and always will be our dad, grandpa and great grandpa. You shared your love and wisdom with all of us. You always stood beside us with love and kindness no matter where our choices in life took us. You were always there. Thank You Dad. Now rest until we all meet again in our Heavenly Fathers House. Love- Your Kids.
