Age 81, died on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the West Anaheim Medical Center. Eugene was born on April 14, 1919, son of the late Henry and Matilda (Diehl) Sommerhalder. During the Depression, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, and planted trees in Northern Wisconsin. Eugene was a carpenter, and was employed by various contracting companies. He was an avid card player; especially cribbage. Eugene also loved woodworking and listening to country music and jazz. During his free time, Eugene would often visit his family in Wisconsin. Eugene is survived by two brothers, Joe Sommerhalder, Little Chute; and Francis (Ardena) Sommerhalder; Menasha. Further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Eugene was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the funeral home, with Father Harold Berryman officiating. Interment will be at Sacred heart Cemetery in Sherwood. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
