Eugene ''Buck'' Linzmeyer

February 19, 1939 — February 3, 2002

Age 62, died at his home on Sunday, February 3, 2002 after a brief illness. Buck was born in Appleton on February 19, 1939, son of the late Roy and Dorothy (Kasper) Linzmeyer. On May 16, 1959, he married the former Shirley Hurst at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton; she survives. Gene was drafted into military service and served for two years with the United States Army. For over forty years, he was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper in Kaukauna, but was forced to retire when his health failed in 1999. He was an avid fisherman, traveler, and enjoyed his dog Belle. Much of his free time was spent working jigsaw puzzles. Many will remember Buck for his frequent “fund raising” escapades! He enjoyed working in his yard, and helping friends and relatives in any way he could. After the death of his sister Gerri in 1983, he even opened his home to her three youngest children. In order to keep them from being separated, he and Shirley raised them as their own.

Gene was certain that his family knew of his great love for them all. While they will all miss him dearly, they know he is is safe at rest in a much better place. Those loved ones include his wife: Shirley Linzmeyer of Kaukauna; two daughters: Susan Linzmeyer of Brillion and Karen (Todd) Mandel of Kaukauna; two sons: Eugene “Geno” (Laurie) Linzmeyer of Greenville and Paul (Nikole) Linzmeyer of Kaukauna; five grandchildren: Jennifer Jones, Gina Mandel, Alexander Mandel, Emily Mandel, and Zachary Linzmeyer; his dear brother: Jim (Andrea) Linzmeyer of Menasha; and seven nieces and nephews: Tammi Nelson of Marion, Cindy (Dan) Schwartz of Embarrass, Rick (Debbie) Nelson of Green Bay, Mike (Stacey) Nelson of Embarrass, Cheryl (Steve) Ambrosius of Oneida, Todd Linzmeyer of Madison, and Chad Linzmeyer of Whitewater. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, and by his twin sister Gerri (Dick) Nelson.

The funeral liturgy for Buck will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 PM Tuesday and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Visiting hours on Tuesday will conclude with a parish prayer and scripture service at 7 PM.
