Elmer M. Brown

Age 83, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton. Elmer was born in Appleton on February 16, 1922, son of the late Elmer and Mae (Schmidt) Brown. During World War II, he served as a member of the United States Army, and following his discharge married the former Edith Buell on November 21, 1946; she survives. Elmer worked for a few years for the Inter-City Bus Company, and then for over thirty-four years was employed by Marathon Corporation (James River, now Georgia Pacific), retiring in 1984. In his retirement, he and Edith worked side by side as they kept up the interior of Edna Ferber School in Appleton. Everyone knew how much Elmer enjoyed driving – and drive he did. The couple visited every state but one: Hawaii. And the only reason he never got to Hawaii is because he couldn’t drive there !

Elmer is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years: Edith Brown of Appleton; three children: Sandy (Garth) Larson of Wisconsin Rapids and their children Jennifer (Michael) Johnston, Lisa (Ron) Hahn, and Micah Larson; Michael Brown of Dover, Pennsylvania and his children Nathan and Emily; and Bonnie (Terry) Srnka of Appleton and their sons Ryan, Joe, and Kyle; five great-grandchildren: Brianna and Mitchell Hahn, and Alex, Ben, and McKenna Johnston; a brother: Gordon (Eunice) Brown of Appleton; a sister: Mary Ann (Bob) Stoeger of Appleton; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son William in 1983.

Funeral services for Elmer will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow with military honors being provided by members of William Verhagen American Legion Post #60 of Kimberly. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
