Elizabeth “Betty” Francis, 80, of Appleton died Sunday May 29, 2011 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born in Washington D.C; June 8, 1930 a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Hurlbut) Rich. Betty married William “Bill” Francis on June 14, 1952 in Washington D.C.
Betty was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton. She was secretary of the church choir for 35 years. She was a trainer for the Girl Scouts. Betty and Bill enjoyed traveling the world extensively together, by train, cruise ship, and plane.
Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bill; two daughters, Joy (Michael) Kutz, Anchorage Alaska, and Karen Berg, Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, W. Ernest (Edith) Rich, Florida; two sisters, Evelyn (Phillip) Oliver, Maryland, and Nancy (Al) Lake, Florida. She was preceded in death by a son, Frank.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday June 18, 2011 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 E South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. Stephen P. Savides and Rev. Jane B. Anderson co-officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm until the hour of service.
Inn lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave, Chicago, Ill 60707-3392, or Bubolz Nature Preserve, 4815 N. Lynndale Dr. Appleton, Wi. 54913
