Continue ReadingElizabeth A. Blenke, age 90, of Kaukauna, passed away at her home on Friday, May 2, 2014. Betty was born on July 1, 1923 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She married William Blenke Sr. on November 9, 1946, in Kaukauna. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, and also worked as a nurse at the Kaukauna Community Hospital for many years. After the hospital closed, Betty used her nursing experience to comfort and care for the ill and dying. She was an avid gardener and also volunteered for the hospital auxiliary. Betty and William were both long-time active members at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna.
Survivors include her children: Michael (Diane) Blenke, Appleton; Patrick (Mary) Blenke, Racine, Timothy (Carol) Blenke, Town of Menasha, Margaret Blenke, of Kaukauna, Ella Blenke, of Little Chute; and William Blenke Jr., of Kaukauna. She is further survived by 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, William Blenke Sr.; siblings: George, Jack, Mary Catherine, Tom and Cornelius “Connie”; sister-in-law: Eleanor “Susie; and her great grandson, Jacob.
The Funeral Liturgy for Betty will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at ST. KATHERINE DREXEL-ST. MARY SITE, 119 W. Seventh Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kaukauna Catholic School System.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the doctors and staff at both Appleton Medical Center and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the care given to Betty. Also, a thank you to Fr. Jerry Pastors for the frequent visits he made to Betty's home.

Your mom was a great friend to my mom as I remember while growing up on 10th Street in Kaukauna in the 50's, 60's and 70's. I have many fond memories of her and her enormous smile and tender compassion. She was very special.
