Edward J. Deschler Jr. of Appleton passed away on Father’s Day, June 18, 2006 at Brewster Village after a long illness. Ed was born on December 28, 1930 the only son of the late Edward & Elizabeth (Nilles) Deschler. On May 30, 1952 he married Evelyn Eifealdt, daughter of George and Katherine (LeClaire) Eifealdt.

Ed started working at the Post Crescent in 1953 as a press photographer. He became Photo Editor, and retired in 1993. He received many awards for his photography, and had numerous photos picked up by the Associated Press. He loved his family, his job, and his cottage near Iola.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn of Appleton; six children: Connie Sonsthagen of Appleton, Lynn Deschler (Bob Mau) of Jefferson, Cynthia (Daniel) Van Thiel of Darboy, Richard (Debra) Deschler of Black Creek, Bill (Desiree) Deschler of Florida, and Scott (Amy) Deschler of Kaukauna. He has four grandchildren: Christine (Andy) Samoore, Sarah Sonsthagen, and Dylan and Derek Deschler; and three step-grandchildren: Ryan (Becky), Alyssa and Brett Van Thiel. Ed is also survived by five of his six sisters: Dorothy Belongea, Marie (Fred) Manzagol, Ruth Fumal, Lois Krueger, and Donnis (Martin) VanDomelen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his sister, Inez Nichols; his mother and father-in-law; two nephews, and numerous brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with Fr. Michael O’Rourke Officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
