Age 81, died Wednesday morning, September 19, 2001. He was born June 29, 1920, to the late Edward A. and Anna K. (Klarner) Arndt, in Appleton, where he was a resident all of his life. Eddie served with the U. S. Coast Guard during WW II. Following his discharge he was employed as a mason with Hoffman Construction and retired from the Appleton School System, where he was an engineer at Wilson Middle School for 24 years. Eddie enjoyed many sports, especially golf and watching his birds. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a life member of Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38, serving in all the chairs of the post, he was a Past Department Sergeant at Arms for the American Legion, a life Member of the Harvey Pierre VFW Post #2778, a member of the 40 et 8, Voiture #1140 and a life member of the Sons of the American Legion. Survivors include his special friend and caregiver for the past ten years, Betty A. Appleton; a daughter Mary Ann Jesse, and friend, Jim Boldt, Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Mike (Mary Jane) Brooks, Bellevue, Washington; Pat Brooks, West Allis; Danny (Kim) Brooks, West Allis; Jerry (Julie) Brooks, Milwaukee; David (Amy) Jesse, Milwaukee; nine great grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Tony, Maggie and Tim Brooks, Saxon and Nick Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks and Benjamin Brooks; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Joan Arndt, Menasha, an uncle and aunt, Ervin and Mildred Klarner, an aunt, Josephine Mueller; his cousin, Pat (Wayne) Moore, Vallejo, California. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Margaret (Hollenback) Arndt, aunts and uncles, Esther Klarner, Frank Klarner, Edward Klarner, Joseph Klarner, John Klarner, George Klarner, Lee Arndt and Ruth Helf. The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 22, 2001, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm Friday and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass. There will be an American Legion and VFW visitation at 7:00 pm and a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:30 pm Friday. A memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Appleton Medical Center 4 North, Dr. Eugene Rigstad, Home Instead Care Agency (especially Mrs. Alan (Angela) Deeg), ThedaCare at Home, and the staff of Unit 1 of Franciscan Care Center.
