Age 78, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Monday, October 3, 2005, at his home.
He was born February 23, 1927, in the town of Bovina, the son of the late William and Mary (Kegel) Beyer. Ed was united in marriage to Patricia Behnke on September 16, 1961, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Appleton. The Beyers recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
Ed was employed in construction as a metal lather during his life. He worked for Merholz Lathing, Appleton Lathing, and Oscar Boldt. He presently was employed with Northern Wisconsin Regional Carpenters and was a 53 year member of the Carpenters Local 955.
Edward was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a life member and was very active with the American Legion Post 38, Appleton. He served as commander, as a member of the house committee, and currently was assistant finance officer. Ed drove the team bus for the American Legion baseball program for many years.
The past 15 years, the Beyer’s would attend the Navy reunions for the former crew members of the Petroff Bay.
Ed, affectionately named “Poppy” by his grandsons, Drew and Ross, loved watching all their sports and musical endeavors, and playing card games with them. His favorite pastimes included mowing lawn, visiting with his friends on his morning breakfasts, and hunting and fishing in earlier years.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat”; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jeff Schultz, and Drew and Ross, of Greenville; his brothers, Harvey (Ethyl) Beyer, of Greenville, and Leonard (Bernice) Beyer, of Dale; his sisters-in-law, Carmen Beyer, Appleton, and Mary Liesch, Stephensville; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Willard (Phyllis) and Vernon, two sisters, Arlene and Rosemary, his mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Celia Behnke, a brother-in-law, Thomas Liesch, and a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Retzlaff.

Funeral services for Edward will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005, at IMMANUEL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, School and Julius Roads, Greenville, with Rev. David Scharf officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors to be presented by the Scarlet Guard, American Legion Post 38. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. today at the funeral home, and again from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church. There will be an American Legion memorial service at 6:30 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial fund in his name is being established.
