Age 91, passed away in Appleton, WI, on March 23, 2010. She was born in McPherson, MN, on February 9, 1919, the daughter of Harvey D. and Bessie Mae (Marshman) Covel. Edna attended St. Andrews Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1943 with a degree in registered nursing. The following year she married Orville Hawkins, sharing 65 years together. Edna loved practicing her profession, and she cherished spending time with her family as well as traveling with Orville throughout the world. She was active in the Girl Scouts as a troop leader and camp nurse, volunteered as a Red Cross nurse in Appleton Public Schools, and was an involved church member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Edna's unconditional love and sense of humor are missed by her family, Susan and Charles Masterson, Nancy and Nathan Brunner; grandchildren: Sarah, Bridget, Kathryn, Benjamin Brier; Meghan and Mark Baird, Levi Brunner; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Neyaka, Nyesha, Alijhen, Gavin, Kayden; and her extended family. She is preceded by her husband, parents, siblings, and great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 E. South River St., Appleton. Friends are welcome one hour prior to the service. Inurnment in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred in Edna's name to Audubon Society.
