Earl W. Schimmelpfenning

September 18, 1932 — March 23, 2007

SCHIMMELPFENNING, EARL WALTER

Out of the arms of my family, into the arms of my Lord. I passed into the arms of my Lord on Friday morning, March 23, 2007 at 8:30 am at Manor Care at the age of 74.

On September 18, 1932 I was given life to a wonderful family. I was born in Appleton to the late Ernest and Mabel Schimmelpfenning and have lived here all of my life. On September 27, 1958, I wed Dona Danley. That marriage lasted 48 years. Dona, your love, patience and sense of God have shepherded me through my final time here on earth with dignity and respect. I love you. We had two daughters, Cindy Lou and Kim Marie. Cindy married Jeffery Ashauer. My life was made complete when they gave us four grandsons, Jesse, Justin, Matthew and Maxwell. We were blessed with two grandchildren from Kim, Nicholas Reiter (who was like a son to me) and then on May 11, 2005 with our only granddaughter Courtney Jo Kepler.

I was employed by I. Bahcall Steel and Supply (now Russell Steel) for 35 years, retiring on June 30, 1995. I am survived by my two sisters, Doris Handler and Ruth (Charlie) Ziegler and my brother Marvin (Marion) Schimmelpfenning. My sisters-in-law Dolores Danly, Marjorie (Frank) Gretzinger and Blanche (John) Garofalo. I have also enjoyed my many nieces, nephews, you are all so special. We also lost my brother Norman Schimmelpfenning and my brothers-in-law Raymond Handler, Raymond Hertzfeld and Clarence Danly.

I do not want you to mourn my death, but to celebrate your life. For now you must make the most of the life I have given you. I will be watching over you in a quiet way.

I have met so many people over the years with Dona’s work with Aid Association for Lutherans (Thrivent Financial), all those times were so precious working with the volunteers. We really had some good times. It made my life very special. Thanks to all of our friends who visited me at Manor Care. That was really nice. A special thanks to the Manor Care staff that took care of me, you were all so special. Also, to the staff of Heartland Hospice, Dr. Philip Yazbak, doctors, nurses and staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology and Radiation Oncology. A special thanks to our family doctor, Dr. Keri Sheldon.

My funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 N. Meade St. with Rev. Dennis E. Ellisen officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in my name.
