Plantz, Earl J. “Jack”

Earl “Jack” Plantz, 81 years young, son of the late Earl and Rose (Wolf) Plantz has died. Jack was a graduate of St. Norbert College and enjoyed a fulfilling 40 year career at Secura Insurance. Jack proudly served in the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Infantry Division for 20 years, retiring in 1968 as a Major.
Jack was a man of passion who brought great joy to those around him. He loved the outdoors: hunting, skiing, boating, camping and golfing. He built the family cabin in Wild Rose, WI where the family gathered for fun times of hunting, campfires, jumping in the river and playing cards.
Jack was an expert at keeping his priorities straight. He tenderly taught, supported and encouraged his children and grandchildren to explore their interests and potential, then remained their most reliable cheerleader along the way. Jack always found the time to express appreciation and pride in others.
Jack was an accomplished private pilot who earned his license at the age of 60. He shared his love of flying as an EAA Chapter 444 volunteer and as a Young Eagle pilot for many years. Jack personally introduced many children to the magic of flight.
Jack is lovingly survived by Jan, his wife of 57 years; his children and their spouses: Jeff (Patty), Mike (Rosie), Gail (Jed), Mark (Melissa), Greg (Julie); his gift from God of nine grandchildren: Annie, Jamie, Hannah, Bridget, Jack, Will, Brent, Ben, Matt; a great granddaughter, Aria; and his sister, Mary (Norm) Ashbaugh; sisters in law, Peg Teevan and Margaret Schneider.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 10:30 am, at St. Therese Catholic Church, corner of Morrison Street and Wisconsin Avenue, with Father William Hoffman officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am, until the time of the mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial to benefit Wisconsin Waterfowl Association Youth Education Fund will be established.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. David Buchanan and Dr. David Ebben and their office staffs for the many years of extraordinary care.
