Earl H. Schroeder

March 4, 1927 — April 30, 2008

Earl H. Schroeder, age 81, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. His loving family was at his side. Earl was born in the Town of Center on March 4, 1927, son of the late Albert and Wilhelmina (Kasten) Schroeder. His mother died at a young age, and his step-mother, Lillian (nee Kubitz), raised Earl from that time on. On August 29, 1953, Earl married the former Dorothy Schumacher, and the couple had spent fifty-four wonderful years together. Earl was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, and had served his country in the United States Army as a medic during World War II. He was stationed at the 279th Medical Hospital, and attained the rank of Private First Class. He and Dorothy loved to travel. When the kids were young, the family traveled together, and in their later years they also traveled on their own. The couple had been to every state with the exception of Hawaii. They also enjoyed spending time at their place up north and caring for his dogs, Clancy and Twix. Earl loved being outside, whether it was a fishing trip or just picking berries, he enjoyed the fresh air. He was a charter member of the Fox River Valley Racing Club, and actually built cars that his brothers eventually raced, the 24 car and the 34 car. He retired from Repap after forty-five years of employment there. Earl will be remembered by all as quite a conversationalist. He loved telling stories and always enjoyed bending anyone's ear for as long as they would allow him to!

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy “Dot” Schroeder of Appleton; five children: Earl (Debra) Schroeder of Greenville; Cynthia (Larry) Nussbaumer of Appleton; Michael (Rumi) Schroeder of Hilbert; Ricky (Michele) Schroeder of Appleton; Pamela (Don) Nielson of Forest Junction; grandchildren: Laura Schroeder, Lisa (Ken) Krause, Eric Schroeder, Kim (Clint) Seidl, Terry (Arry) Nussbaumer, Nicole Nussbaumer, Kayla Schroeder, Joshua Schroeder, Ashley Schroeder, Emelia Schroeder, Allyn Schroeder, Ricky Schroeder, Jr., Dale (Wendy) Nielson, Amy (Robert) Ruelle, and Jenny Nielson; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Nancy Schroeder of Phelps, Joann Schroeder of Appleton, Dora Smith of Appleton, and Ann Schumacher of Georgia, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gary (Lee) Schroeder, brothers Robert and Norbert, brothers-in-law Kenneth Smith and Robert Schumacher, and a sister-in-law Betty (Rich Gloudemans) (Larry) Dreier.

The Christian Funeral for Earl will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to extend their thanks to everyone at ThedaCare At Home, the many physicians and nurses who cared for Earl, especially Dr. Steinlage. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
