THE LAST RESUME

Dwight Buchanan Easty died on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the age of 81. His 19-year stretch with prostate cancer, recent peripheral neuropathy, and partial blindness from glaucoma inspired his coup de grace. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio on March 8, 1934 and was predeceased by his parents, Dwight Boyman and Wayve Buchanan Easty, and his wife of 52 years, Mary Kay. He is survived by two sons, Allen (Julie), David, one daughter, Anne Wilder, and one grandson, Ross Allen Easty.

Dwight grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, and graduated from Avon Lake High School. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in chemistry and earned MS and PhD degrees from Lawrence College (The Institute of Paper Chemistry). He spent five years at NVF Co., Yorklyn, DE, and held temporary appointments in chemistry at the University of Delaware, Ohio Wesleyan University, and the University of Wisconsin where he also performed postdoctoral research. In 1969 Dwight joined the faculty of The Institute of Paper Chemistry where he became Associate Professor of Chemistry and Group Leader of Analytical Chemistry. Prior to the Institute's relocation to Atlanta in 1989, Dwight joined James River Corp. in Camas, WA as Manager, Environmental Analytical Laboratory. Following transfer to James River's Neenah Technical Center in 1996, Dwight retired in 2000. He finally retired in 2004 from Integrated Paper Services in Appleton. During his retirement years Dwight served over 8, 000 hours as a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital and was author of the Kaizen Curmudgeon blog.

When the children were young, Dwight enjoyed camping with the family in National Parks across the U.S. and canoeing with the Boy Scouts of Troop 8 in the whitewater rivers of northern Wisconsin. When he lived in Washington, Dwight hiked and climbed in the Rockies and Cascades. Later in life, Dwight studied foreign languages (French, German, Italian), which he used to advantage on the many trips that he and Mary Kay took to Europe.

Dwight was active in Boy Scout Troop 8 and a long-time member of the Sanctuary Choir of First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Torch Club of the Fox Valley and The Rotary Club of Appleton where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Dwight was immensely proud of the accomplishments of Mary Kay and their children. His life was blessed by the love of his family and the friendship of neighbors and colleagues in science, music, and health care.

A memorial service for Dwight will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev.
