Duane K. Haviland

December 30, 1936 — August 7, 2014

Duane K. Haviland, Antigo, Wisconsin, native and resident of The Villages, Florida, passed away on August 7, 2014 at the age of 77 after a brief battle with cancer.

Duane was born in Antigo, Wisconsin on December 30, 1936. After graduating high school in 1955, Duane enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1956. After spending four years in the service, Duane briefly returned to Antigo where he met and married his wife Janet Lenzner. Duane and Janet enjoyed 52 years of marriage raising their three children in Appleton, Wisconsin before moving to their lake home in Shawano, Wisconsin and eventually residing in The Villages, Florida.

Duane's professional career spanned many decades as co-owner of Haviland Hearing Aids based in Appleton, Wisconsin. Duane and his older brother Dick proudly served numerous clients throughout their professional career, building Haviland Hearing Aids into a respected and trusted provider of hearing instruments to the hearing impaired. Duane was extremely happy and proud to have formed such a successful working partnership with his brother Dick for over 40 years.
Duane enjoyed evening golf cart rides to one of three town squares in The Villages, the house and pontoon rides on Legend Lake, the History Channel, and reading. Duane's true passion was golf. He enjoyed playing, teaching, shaving strokes, foot wedges, numerous mulligans, as well as watching golf from the comforts of his home. However, his passion for playing golf subsided a bit when his wife Janet started beating him on a regular basis!

Duane dealt with this “crushing defeat” on the golf course by spending more time with his most cherished accomplishment, his three children and six grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and teaching the values and sense of humor he had developed throughout his eventful life. Duane was a devoted family man whose generosity and sense of humor affected all he touched. Duane also paid great attention to detail and was never late…unless he was forced to wait for Janet!

Duane is survived by his wife Janet and their children Leah (Jeff) Lutz, Dewey (Tracy) Haviland and David (Stacy) Haviland. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Adam, Rylee, Griffin, and Jadyn Lutz as well as Kendall and Dane Haviland. Duane is further survived by his brother Keith; sisters-in-law: Ruth and Toni and brother-in-law Del Schmeichel.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruby, and siblings Dick, Gary, Moonyean, Diane, Colin, Kathy, David, and George.
