As a veteran of the AASD I can't begin to describe the impact Dr. Meilke has had on our community, our district, our school, me, and most importantly on our students. I was privileged to work with John in several capacities, developing STEM programs, career exploration opportunities, and community-school collaboration projects. It has been my joy to travel with John and Sally to the Nobel Conference many times, watching his vision of bringing together a diverse group of community member, students, and educators together to address important global issues with a local lens. Dr. John Meilke was truly a man of vision, action, and heart. He will be missed. May Sally and the family be blessed and comforted in this difficult time. With love, Annette Schwalenberg

I met Dr. John Mielke at Memorial Presbyterian Church. I will always remember him singing, "The Lord's Prayer," acapella, when members of the congregation were sharing a special memory about their membership at MPC. He had a wonderful baritone voice. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. In Deepest Sympathy, Cathy Hatfield
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Dr. Mielke was famous in the AASD circle.I remember receiving a phone call from him (yes, I was nervous ;) ) and he asked me a serious of questions about a kiln I need for our students of Lincoln Elementary...I said we are the only school in the district that doesn't have one, and his reply was..."well that's not right, we will support and get you one right away". A man who touched so many lives, and special the children of Lincoln Elementary. You should be all so very proud of such a bright light. Much love to your and your family.

I always loved seeing Dr. Mielke and Sally at the return to school celebration for AASD in August. His dedication to children and healthy communities has made Appleton a special place to live, teach, and raise my own family. 6 years ago I was fortunate enough to participate in the Mielke Summer Institute and it was a transformative week. I'm so grateful to the Mielke family for the ways they continue to hold our community up to be the best that we can be. Thank you for your service, Dr. Mielke. May you rest peacefully, good and faithful servant.

My deepest condolences go out to everyone touched by John. The tears will come from many, as he has touched so many lives! Ever since I met him, when he and the family brought me on a trip to the Nobel Conference I have strived to impact as many lives as I can in a positive way. I began researching colon cancer and am currently helping numerous patients get answers to their dilemma, however, what I'll be capable of will pale in comparison to his accomplishments. He was a truly great man and I'm humbled that I had the experiences that he gave me in remembrance of Emma. We will get through these tears. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help and how we can keep their great traditions going for future generations of life long learners. Much love, Tyler Thomas Rasmussen
