I worked with Jeff at AMC in conjunction with my role as a Physican Assistant and Perfusionist on the Heart Team. He was respected and loved by all the personnel and patients alike. He will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his family at this time of grief.
So sorry for your loss. I am so happy I went to the service, the insight into the private side ,while heartbreaking, helps to see the other side of the professional, caring ,empathetic physician we saw at work. You are born with that, you cannot learn it. I can only imagine the pain and grief you are experiencing. You are in my prayers.
I was chaplain at AMC 9 years ago and always admired Jeff\'s gentleness with patients and their families. May he rest in peace. Ruth
I met Dr. Whiteside 4 years ago because of my mild sleep apnea. I only had to see him once a year; and those appointments were only about 10 minutes long at the most; but I already miss him very much. I always looked forward to seeing him because he would look at the data from my CPAP machine and say, "Great job, kid! Keep it up! You get an A+!" Last year he noticed that I took a lot of naps and was concerned that maybe my levels weren't right for my CPAP and I wasn't resting well enough at night. I told him that I had a 1 year old who still didn't always want to sleep through the night AND a husband who snored loudly in my ear every night. Without missing a beat, he said, "I can't do anything about your 1 year old, but send your husband in to see me! We can help him with his snoring!" We've been so extremely blessed with the medical professionals that our family sees here in Appleton. This is just a huge, heartbreaking loss for the medical community and patients here. I pray that God blesses those who miss Dr. Whiteside and that God will comfort his staff and his family.
Blessings to the family on the loss of this caring physician Dr. Whiteside.
I am sorry to hear of Dr. Whitesides passing he was my dr.for a long time he was also my fathers doctor and he was a great doctor always happy go lucky and smiling .He will be missed by alot of people rest in peace and see alot of your patients that are in heaven ...
So many great memories with such a great man; most memorable the countless Thanksgivings spent at the Whiteside house and our joint family trip to Breckinridge, CO for the big millennium. Keep an eye on us from above, and may you rest in peace.
You saved my sisters life. When no other Dr. was able to figure out her immune disorder, you provided her with answers. Not only did you know how to help her, you were so caring and always welcomed questions to help us understand the medical condition that haunted her for so many years. No words can describe our gratitude. Rest In Peace with our Savior forever and prayers to your family and that will always have the blessings of your memory in their hearts❤︝🙝🝻
This is so hard to see and hear that DR. WHITESIDE IS NO LONGER WITH US....ONLY GOES TO SHOW GOD ONLY TAKES THE BEST....R I P DOC.....YOU WERE SO LOVED .. YOU WILL BE MISSED AND NEVER BE FOR GOTTEN..THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
Dr. Whiteside first diagnosed me in 1987 with my lung disease. He has been my guardian angel for 28 years. He was always there for me when I couldn't breathe and he stayed in touch when I had my lung transplant in Madison. I referred my friends, family, neighbors, etc. to Dr. Whiteside and he always took them as a patient. He was the most caring doctor I every met. He gave me his email address and I could always depend on him to answer my emails. He would call me at home when there was news, good or bad, that I needed to know. For selfish reasons I need you Dr. Whiteside now in my life to advise me on future lung surgery; however, I am now saying goodbye to my best friend. It's not fair. For some reason God decided he needed you more now. Rest in peace Dr. Whiteside. You are deeply missed. Please watch over me from heaven. Nancy
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Such great childhood memories of times spent with Jeff and all the Whitesides. Family trips fishing , skiing and getting to go to the cabin in Yankton. Jeff was always wiling to take us youngsters out boating or sailing.
Truly Blessed to have grown up with Jeff

Bill Adams & Family,
We are so
sorry for the loss of your Brother, Brother In Law and Uncle. We only had
the pleasure of meeting Jeff on a few occasions at different events that your
families hosted. Jeff was always smiling
and very nice to talk with. Just want you all to know that you are in our
thoughts and prayers as you navigate through these tough times. We know that together you will find your way through
this. We pray that Jeff is at peace.

My heart breaks for you and your family, Kathi. I just could hardly believe it. My thoughts are with you.
Kathi and Jeff were friends from Central High School in Sioux City.
I remember Jeff in 1975 when I worked in the Pulmonary Lab at the University of Iowa. I was a high school student and he was a medical student ,I believe, then. It was amazing upon moving to Appleton our paths again crossed. Our heartfelt and deepest sadness has accompanied these events. We have both worked with Jeff and respected his personal integrity and medical knowledge. Our only prayer is that he is in peace.

Julianna and Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you at this time
Marsha, Anne and Bob….May fond memories of Jeff bring you comfort during this hard time in your life. Look back on all the good memories you are able to have and smile at the fact that you were able to share these. My heart goes out to my cousins. Our Families have such great memories of getting together with Bob, Maxine, Jeff, Marsha, Anne and Bobby. Whether it would be in Storm Lake, Sioux City or Yankton. When "families" got together it was always one of love and laughter. I will always cherish these memories.

While growing up in Sioux City, I knew Jeff at both Hoover and Central. We had many classes together, but I've lost track of most people from then, so it was shocking to learn that he's passed in such a tragic way. Anyone who's ever known him would want to extend heartfelt sympathies to Kathi and family. Rest in peace.
I, too, was a patient of this great man/DOCTOR/human being. You have few 'real' DOCTORS in your life when you need many. He was one that not only went over and beyond the 'norm' but did all in a humble and peaceful way. For these events to have happened to such a GREAT, GREAT man is so heartbreaking, so troubling, so sad, so empty for all of us as patients and for this community. He was not your scripted physician who faked his/her concern or treated you like a number/dollar sign/a nothing. We mattered to this great man....WE were the reason he studied/worked so hard to be who became and made a difference in so many ways. WE were the blessed ones here as he continued to press on saving lives and helping thousands and thousands live and breathe! We can all say thank you by praying for his children and grandchildren in their walks of grief and loss. As many that know him better would probably agree, he was far from done on this earth doing what he did best. My/our prayers as a hurting community are that he has the peace and love of God that knows NO bounds. In an effort to replace him, the search will take a 'lifetime.' There is NONE, no way.
Dr. Whiteside: Thank you from all your patients. Thank you for your amazing humble, kind, sweet, funny compassion! Thank you for making us feel like the only person in your day! We must all pray for his coworkers on all levels of service....they must be bleeding with tears and sorrow. How lucky and blessed you all were to have known him in those ways! Press on for his memory sake and be all that HE was/is and on even higher levels of kind compassion. From that heartfelt place, there you will feel his lovely smile and kindness.
There he will always be.....Rest in peace precious Dr. Whiteside.
There is no replacement for this real Doctor!
We are deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful doctor and friend. We will all miss Dr. Whiteside, and extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues. Marsha, Anne and Bob, I have always had a special place in my heart for Jeff. I idolized him growing up and always wanted to have my husband to be exactly like him (when I was 5-6 he WAS going to be my husband). He was so patient with me, tried to teach me to ski, watched in amazement while he surfed in the wake behind the boat, and the one winter we were in Yankton, making snow ramps so he could get air time skiing behind a snowmobile. Great memories of a great man. Our cousin times were always memorable, hindsight, I wish we would have made more of an effort to get together when we became adults. My condolences to Matthew, how proud he was that you were the firstborn grandson (I still remember the picture of Grandpa, Uncle Bob and the 2 of you), Julianna and Andrea and children. How sad he will never watch them grow up to adults. I can only hope that he's found peace and will look after all of us until we meet again.
Love to all

I have known Dr. Whiteside for 25 years and I am 43 years old. So I have known him a big chunk of my
life. In 1991 I met Dr. Whiteside in ICU
after I stopped breathing because of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. After that I was on a ventilator most of the
time. He has helped me through many bad times, but yet he was one of the good things in my life. He remembered details of my life besides the medical aspects. He took the time to care. Dr. Whiteside’s large smile and caring attitude always made everything feel better no matter what. He will be greatly missed and not just because of his excellent skills as a Doctor, but as a friend.
I am so saddened by the death of Dr. Whiteside. He was my pulmonary doctor for 10 yrs. He was always the ultimate professional and a very caring man. I will never forget how he talked to me and listened to my concerns. He will be missed very much. Prayers for his Family and Friends including his coworkers and Patients.
Dr. Whiteside was my pulmonary doctor for as long as I knew I had asthma. He was a consummate professional and a gentleman in every way. If it wasn't for his efforts and assistance, I probably would have never been able to follow my dreams of becoming a professional classical musician. As a musician who plays a wind instrument (horn), most people's first reaction when I mention I suffer from asthma is, "You must be joking!" but thanks to Dr. Whiteside I've been able to beat the odds and I am deeply indebted to him for his work. My deepest sympathies go to the Whiteside family during this difficult time. Jeff will be missed by all who knew him, either personally or professionally.
Dr. Whiteside gave his all to his patients; a humble yet intelligent, top-notch physician; it was a privilege to have him as one of our family physicians; we are deeply saddened.
Dr. Whiteside was a wonderful doctor, as I came to know him as a patient a few months ago. I am sending my strength to his family, colleagues, friends, and lifelong patients. May your fond memories help you during this difficult time. Deepest sympathies...
Dr Whiteside was my doctor for 18 years. Turned my life around and always told me how good I was doing. I could hear him getting close to my door for my follow up...the whistling & in he would come sweeping in with a smile on his face extended his hand to shake & showed how much he genuinely cared. I know there are other doctors, but no one can replace or do what Dr Whiteside has done for me. A remarkable man and caring human being. So sad to have lost one of the best!
Thoughts and prayers for all...Dr. Whiteside will be missed by many. I will always remember how he took the extra time to explain and help teach me different procedure/reasons for therapies when I first became an RT. He was an incredible man.
I was a patient of Dr Whiteside and also worked with him at the hospitals!! Loved him so much. We talked about his going to Door County last visit and how we would see each other again kn the fall. Will mjiss him terribly. Sending prayers to his family; co-workers and many friends and patients. Heaven welcomed a wonderful man!
I am so saddened by this great loss. I got to know Dr, Whiteside when I worked at AMC and then as he followed up hospital visits to my husband who was a patient of one of Dr, Whiteside;s colleagues, He was a wonderful physician and more still a very nice man.I find it very difficult to think taht this has happened to him. He will be so very much missed by his family, friends and colleagues. A big loss to the Medical community. Many prayers to his family. God rest his soul.
Dr. Whiteside was my doctor for 20 years, he treated me with nothing but the utmost respect. I will miss his smile that lit up the room every time he entered it, and his infectious laugh, he was a wonderful and amazing doctor. My heart goes out to all his colleagues, co-workers, and his family. RIP Dr. Jeffrey Whiteside you will be truly missed by many
So sad to hear about Jeff. My thoughts and prayers to Kathi and his family. We all went to high school together. Such wonderful memories. Jeff was a sweetheart - so kind and thoughtful.
Worked for Dr. Whiteside over 30 years ago, am saddened and heartbroken over his passing. Every patient loved and admired him. He will be deeply missed by everyone in this community. Deepest sympathies to his family.
I am lost for words, and still can't believe this has happened to such an incredible man. Thoughts, prayers and much needed support and hugs to those that have gotten to know and love him. I have known Dr. Whiteside over 30 years working at AMC. He was so well respected and loved. I hope he is at peace and knows how much he was loved. It was an honor to have known him and he will never be forgotten. Thanks for the cookies Dr. Whiteside that was delivered every Thursday to ICU. Peace.
I feel very proud and blessed to have known & worked for Dr Whiteside. To his family, friends, colleagues & staff, you have my deepest sympathy!! I'm heart broken & I know how much he'lol be missed & all the lives & families he touched with his kindness.
