Dr. Frances Baumbach, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. She was born on November 27, 1922 in Menomonie, WI to the late Dr. Herbert and Erna (Kaatz) Baumbach. Frances graduated from Menomonie Central High School in 1940. She went on to attend Capital University (OH), Milwaukee Hospital School, Marquette University, UW Madison, UW Oshkosh and the Dallas Theological Seminary while earning multiple masters and her PhD. Early in her career, Frances worked as a deaconess and nurse. Her true passion was her work as a professor and librarian. She taught Greek, English and Library Science in Minnesota, Missouri and Texas. In the late 1980's, Frances made her way to Appleton to work in the library at Fox Valley Technical College until her retirement in 2006. Frances was an academic at heart and enjoyed reading and studying. She played the organ and flute and was a poet. Her Christian faith the anchor of her life and after her long journey she is now at peace with Christ.
Frances is survived by her cousins: Dr. Steven Kaatz (MN), Mary Helen Quinn (TX), Marjorie Seelhorst (PA) and Larry (Deb) Baumbach.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Helene Holmberg.
The funeral service for Frances will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 16 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME (537 N. Superior St.) with Pastor Jim Wiebel officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Bible Society or World Vision in her name.
Frances' family wishes to thank Jane Roisum and Vivian Vanden Hogen for the friendship and comradery. Also, a thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Paul Home and The Appleton Retirement Community for the care and compassion given to Frances.
