Loving wife, mother, grandmother and poet, age 75, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center. Dorothy Warren Olson was born January 29th, 1927 in Franklin, New Jersey. She was the eldest daughter of Reverend George and Clara (Joliffe) Warren. The family moved to Wisconsin, where she attended public schools until she graduated from the Sturgeon Bay High School in 1945. Dorothy went on to study voice and theater with a scholarship to Hamline University, and graduated from the University of Denver in 1949. She married Edwin H. Olson in 1948, and they had many adventures in their 54 years of marriage. Dorothy loved and looked after her family of 8 brothers and sisters, her three children and two grandchildren. She loved to sing and listen to music. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to read and memorize a wide variety of poetry. She was a member and officer of the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women, as well as enjoying a long membership with the Town & Gown. Her strong faith, nurtured by her parents, family and church, gave her great joy and strength. A life long member of the Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School, and was a member of various commissions and boards. Dorothy spent her life educating herself in all manner of subjects. She was unfailingly kind and generous and is greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved a good B.L.T. Dorothy is survived by her dear husband, Edwin H. Olson; three children, Rolf, Krista (Don) and Jon Olson; her beloved grandchildren, Colin and Renn; six sisters, Bonnie (Rev. Dr. Marion) Conditt; Betty (Rev. Dr. Gerald) Moede; Marilyn (Willard) Blackmon; Jean (William) Miller; Robin (Terry) Cooprider; Lynda Warren; one brother, the Rev. David (Hope) Warren; and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara; and her eldest brother Robert. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 26, 2002, at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 325 East Franklin Street, Appleton, with Rev. Jane Voigts officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Monday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Dorothy was a loving, caring, generous and creative woman who loved to laugh. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
