Age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2002 at Franciscan Care Center following a short battle with cancer. She was born on September 14, 1918 in Appleton the daughter of the late Arthur and Viola (Bierman) Kobs. On July 30, 1938 she married Arthur Oakley in Appleton. She enjoyed her card club years ago, always had a good sense of humor, and enjoyed dining out. She devoted her life to her family as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by her children and grandchildren: Judy (Dave) Weinfurter and their son Brent (Sara) Weinfurter all of Appleton; John (Barbara) Oakley of Menasha and their daughters Sandy (Mike) Boyer of Appleton, and Sindy Oakley of Green Bay; Richard (Carol “Annie”) Oakley of Anderson, South Carolina; Gary (Gina) Oakley, and their children Richard Oakley, Dion Oakley, and Dominic Oakley all of Tampa, Florida; Sharon (Greg) Verhoeven and their son Kevin Verhoeven all of Appleton; and James (Mary K.) Oakley and their children Sara and Anthony Oakley all of Neenah. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Amanda and Jonathan Boyer of Appleton; her brother and sister Carlton (Sandy) Kobs of Winneconne and Ruth Bierman of Appleton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister Howard Kobs, and Marion Ashman; her grandson Robert Oakley, and a daughter-in-law Cookie Oakley.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 21, 2002 at 11:30 AM at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 North Oneida Street with the Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at Wichmann Tri-County Chapel on Thursday from 4-8 PM and on Friday at the Gammelin Memorial Chapel at Zion Lutheran Church from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
