Loving husband, brother, step-father, age 86, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Manor Care Health Services. Don was born in Appleton on March 24, 1917, son of the late Otto and Minnie (Renner) Stegert. He served his country during World War II, in a U.S. Army M.A.S.H. Unit. Don married Mary Gerarden on August 31, 1979, and they have enjoyed over 23 years of marriage together. He loved spending time at his cottage on Lake Metonga, fishing and hunting. Don was also an avid Packer and Cubs fan. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; his step-children, Jack (JoAnn) Ahrens; Patricia (Dave) Parry, Wellington, Nevada; Thomas (Rose) Ahrens; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Stegert; niece, Barbara Stegert; and nephew, Bill Stegert. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Willard. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 East Fremont Street, Appleton, with Rev. Robert Karuhn officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church on Saturday, June 14 from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Manor Care for their loving care of Don.
