Donald R. Schroeder

April 3, 1936 — May 19, 2010

Donald Schroeder, age 74, passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday evening, May 19, 2010, at the Appleton Medical Center. Don was born April 3, 1936, in Appleton, son of the late Edward and Verna (Plamann) Schroeder.

In his younger years, Don worked at the Appleton Post Crescent, but for most of his working years was employed at AAL (Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) where he worked in payroll, and later managed the printing, copying, and distribution there. In his retirement years, he returned to the Post Crescent on a part-time basis, working in a variety of positions. Don was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served in various other capacities over the years.

Don was quite the sportsman. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Many will recall his many years of playing church league basketball and softball, two sports he truly enjoyed. Everyone will also remember his love of gardening, and the beautiful roses he cared for at his home each year.

Don is survived by two children: John Schroeder of Madison and Shari Schroeder of Appleton; two sisters: Ellen (Richard) Radley of Greenville and Phyllis Schultz of Appleton; two sisters-in-law: Barb Petersen of Stanton, Nebraska and Mardy (David) Vosbeck of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy in 2008; brothers Lawrence (Betty Jane) Schroeder and Kenneth (Carole Buxton) Schroeder; sisters: Iris Schroeder; and Betty (Emery) Eggenberger; and a brother-in-law: Robert Petersen.

The Christian Funeral for Don will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 24, 2010, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton with Rev. Paul Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and again on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Dear Dad,

Thanks for your unconditional love and support. We'll take care of Trixie, don't worry, just rejoice in paradise with our Lord & Savior. Even though we will miss you, we're glad you and Mom are together again. Your example of faith will get us through until we meet again.

Love you always,
Shari & John
