Donald F. Lesperance

June 7, 1925 — August 7, 2018

Donald F. Lesperance, age 93, of Fox Crossing, WI passed away on August 7, 2018 at Oak Park Place in Menasha, WI. Don was born on June 7, 1925 in Daggett, MI to the late Arthur and Helen (Lemery) Lesperance. He left high school as a young man to serve his country during World War II in the European Theater, earning several honors, including a purple heart. After the war, he met the love of his life, Virginia “Jean” Hafeman. The two were united in marriage on September 11, 1948 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Spalding, MI and together would spend nearly 70 years together, raising their 5 children in Menasha.

Donald enjoyed golfing, dancing with the Merry Makers dance club, polka, cribbage, solitaire, card groups, softball, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, marching in the Appleton Flag Day Parade, wood working and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Don was a proud member of VFW Post 2126, Purple Hearts and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Lynn (Larry) Grassl, Bonnie (Leon “Mike”) Schallie, Gary (Jan) Lesperance, Scott (Kim) Lesperance and Jane (Dave) Knoll; grandchildren, Beth (Ben) Boehnlein, Mickey (Katie) Schallie, Adam (Stephanie) Grassl, Peter (Kim Grocholski) Lesperance, Anna Lesperance, Lance (Caitlin) Grassl, Jaimeson (Natalie) Walter, Eric Grassl, Suzanne (Kyle) Riste, Lacey (Bobby) Abdullahi, Jessica Knoll, Sara Lesperance and Stephen Lesperance; 18 great-granchildren; Many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

A funeral liturgy will be held for Don at Wichmann-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 AM, with Rev. Bill Swichtenberg officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9 AM to 11 AM at Wichmann-Laemerich Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah.

The Lesperance family would like to thank Hospice, along with special thanks to Mollly Lesperance, caregiver and close friend of the family. They would also like to thank the caregivers at Oak Park Place who gave their dad special care.
