Dolores M. Stroupe

July 21, 1931 — February 18, 2010

Dolores Marcella “Dolly” Stroupe, nee Brooks, died Feb. 18, 2010 at Cherry Meadows in Appleton. Dolly was born on July 21, 1931 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elsie and Ernest Brooks. She resided on a small farm in the town of Winchester for the last 40 years. On January 28, 1955, she married Ken Stroupe, in Taos, New Mexico while Ken was attending college. Dolly was a very private person who was very proud of her accomplishments in life. As an accomplished seamstress she made much of her family's clothing and enjoyed helping with 4-H, prom dresses and used her talents to make her daughter's wedding dress. She was honored to make a special Oshkosh B'Gosh vest presented to former Governor Dreyfus. Her house was adorned with the many of her craft items and her collection of Dolls. She became somewhat independent when having to manage the household and raise a family while her husband, Ken, spent most of the time working out of town. She supported and participated in her husbands business, “Electrical Assistance Inc”. After moving to the farm in 1971, she enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers. She gave her time to the many activities of her kids while in school. She looked forward to taking her grandchildren for their school supplies each year, even when they traded their crayons for calculators. She enjoyed very much being spoiled by her grandson Adam. Through her love for animals she gave to them and they loved and trusted her in return. A stray cat was always welcomed. We will always remember Mom with her trail of cats, dogs, and cows making their daily walk up the long driveway to get the mail each day. She reminded us often that the mountains in Pennsylvania were bigger than the hills of Colorado, Penn State was going to win, Jimmy Johnson was winning the race, and to always let your conscience be your guide. She is survived by her husband, Ken, having recently observed their 55th anniversary. Two sons: David Guthrie of Harrisburg, PA and Kevin (Patti) Stroupe of Winchester, WI. Two daughters: Brenda (Stuart) Hallman of Berlin, WI and Lisa (Greg) Shelton of Cloverdale, CA. Grandchildren: David Guthrie, Jr., Nicole Downs, Melissa Shelton, Brian Hallman, Amber Stroupe and Adam Stroupe.
She is further survived by her brother: Terry (Linda) Brooks of Everett, PA, Cousins: Betty (Clair) Waltz of Williamsport, PA, Helen Bailey of Holiday, FL, and various nieces, nephews, cousins and great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to the Theda Care Home Hospice and their Cherry Meadows care facility. We are, indeed, grateful for their care and assistance in our time of need.
Per Dolly's wishes, she will be cremated. A private memorial service may be arranged by the family at a later date.
