Dolores M. "Jo" Burton

Dolores M. “Jo” Burton, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. She was born on September 9, 1927 in the town of Freedom, daughter of the late Frances “Frank” and Delia (Geurts) Jager. Jo grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1947. She enjoyed going to dances at the Nightingale where she met her future husband. On September 11, 1948 she married Donald Burton in Wrightstown. Their marriage was blessed with nine children. Jo enjoyed bowling, cooking, bingo and taking over-night trips to the casino. She was a lifelong member at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and she often volunteered there. Jo's passion in life was her family; she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Jo is survived by her husband, Don of 64 years, seven children: Ed (Kay) Burton, William (Gloria) Burton, Gary Burton, Joan (Bob) Grode, Wendy (Dave) Stern, Randy (Jodi) Burton and Mark Burton; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Catherine (Dick Verfurth) Janssen, Vione (Ken) Pomeroy and Arlene Weyenberg, three brothers-in-law: Frances Burton, Jim (“Ducky”) Guyette and Leonard (Kay) Guyette; and one sister-in-law, Germaine Croell. Jo is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald David Jr. and infant Robert Lee; one brother, Merlin (Alice) Jager; three sisters: Geneva Jager, Frances (Melvin) Heiting and infant Grace Marie; parents-in-law: Fern and Cleveland Guyette and father-in-law: Edward Burton; several brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph Janssen, Helen (Ben) Banker, Earl Burton, Clayton Burton and his wives Susie and Noreen, Lois (Hank) Leeman and Ione Burton.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, with Father Dan Felton officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at the parish cemetery.

The family would like to extend great thanks to all the staffs at: Theda Care Hospice, Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, St. Paul Home and Hospice, Clarity Care “Girls”, Freedom First Responders, Meals on Wheels. Also a thank you to the wonderful visitors from: VFW 7692 Auxiliary in Freedom, St. Nicholas Eucharistic ministers and Deacon Don Newhouse for all their wonderful time spent with Jo. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
