Dolores C. Poehls

August 12, 1931 — May 25, 2014

Our dearest Dolores C. Poehls, was born to eternal life, on Sunday, May 25th, 2014. The 2nd youngest of 8 children, Dolores was born at home on the farm in Norman, WI, on August 12, 1931. She attended and graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1948. Dolores was spotted out on the dance floor by Walter, who reassured their mutual friend before even meeting her that “she was the woman that he was going to marry someday.” Walters' wish was granted, and Dolores and he joyfully shared 48 years together in marriage. They were blessed with 8 hard-working and dedicated children who truly think the world of their mother. Dolores' upbringing on the farm was put to good use as she was an amazing gardener and canned numerous quarts of pickles, beets and salsa. And who of us can ever forget the zucchini bread recipe Dolores exponentially produced, to be shared at any family or friendly gathering? Dolores devoted her entire life to living out her faith in God, in service to her family, friends, and the home bound whom she weekly paid a visit to. Dolores' gift to recall events would astound us all, as she could routinely recite the date for a snowstorm, birth date or sentinel event with such accuracy, it would send an accomplished historian into a head spin. She took great care in sending out cards to her family and friends, so that they would receive their greeting on the exact day of their memorable event. Dolores couldn't sit longer than a few minutes in her favorite chair without knitting. She generated layettes for all her great grandchildren, mittens for every family member as well as countless homeless shelters and orphanages from Chicago to Russia or wash cloths to all who could possibly use them. Dolores loved to travel with her siblings and their spouses and had the honor of being only an arms length away from Pope John Paul II (newly canonized) when he visited the U.S. in Detroit, MI. Dolores' virtuous life was a stepping stone to her eternal home into heaven as she so lovingly and selflessly cared for all those God put in her path. We hope and pray that heaven rewards you with all that your heart can hold!! We love you and shall miss you always!! We hope that Mom and Dad are dancing a waltz into paradise together.
Dolores is survived by the children: Paul (Terri) Poehls and their children Jason, Jeremy (Katie), and Kristin; William (Patti) Poehls and their children Jennifer (Corey), Joseph (Becky), James, and Jacquelyn (Tom); the late Mark (Lori) Poehls and their children Brian (Katie), Karl (Carrie) Taylor (Lydia), Justus (Laura) and Beau; Patrick (Christine) Poehls and their children David (Candy), Jessica (Roger), Nicholas, and Thomas; Charlene (Anthony) Rondinelli and their children Nate, Stephen, and Nicholas; Brian (Jennifer) Poehls; and Mary (John) Graycarek and their children Jacob, Johnna and Katie. She is further survived by 19 great grandchildren, as well as her sisters: Betty (Virgil) Michaels and Sr. Theresa Schleis; her brother: Jake (Delores) Schleis; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Walt and her sons: Jerome and Mark.
