Derold F. Bohren

February 15, 1918 — January 24, 2009

Derold Bohren, age 90, slipped quietly into the arms of his loving Savior on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Dove Healthcare in Eau Claire, after a long illness. Derold Franklin Bohren was born February 15, 1918, on a farm near Thorp, Wisconsin. When Derold was two, his family moved to a farm near Dale, Wisconsin, where he grew up. During World War II, Derold enlisted in the Navy and was proud to have served aboard the LST 812 in the Pacific Theater. In 1946 Derold married Alice Collar and together they raised their two sons in Appleton. Alice preceded him in death in 1977. In 1979 Derold married Nanette Spoehr Brandt; they would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on June 2nd. Derold retired from Riverside Paper Corporation in Appleton in 1983 after 36 years, where he served as Union Steward and was also instrumental in implementing the Riverside Employee Pension Program. After retirement, he and Nanette moved to a beautiful property on the banks of the Embarrass River near Pella, Wisconsin, where many joyful hours were spent bird watching, gardening, fishing, and enjoying visits with family and friends. Derold was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and the United Paperworkers International Union. Music was a very important part of Derold's life; he was self-taught on the button accordion and spent many happy hours entertaining with his accordion tunes, all played from memory.

Derold was a loving, gentle and generous man, a man who was cherished by his wife, children, and grandchildren and who will be deeply missed.

Derold is survived by his wife: Nanette; his sons: Jim (Marilyn) Bohren of Sheboygan; Jerry (Jo) Bohren of Appleton; a stepson: Brian (Jill James) Brandt of Portland OR; stepdaughters: Meredith (Phil) Seidl of Eau Claire; Amy (Mike) Nordlee of Appleton; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alice (Keith) Moderson and Effie LaPlante; a brother: Eugene, and a sister-in-law Marge Bohren.
