Delmar R. Smith

Delmar R. Smith, 93, of Appleton, formerly of West Bend died June 11, 2008. He was born on Nov. 27, 1914 in Burlington, WI to the late Albert W. and Esther (nee Reminger) Smith. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1933 and attended UW Extension School. On April 26, 1942, he was united in marriage to Evelyn T. Kollmeyer at Grace Reformed Church in Milwaukee. They lived in Hales Corners for many years prior to moving to Cedar Ridge in 1989.

Del served an apprenticeship in patternmaking and was a patternmaker at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA during WW II. He returned to Wisconsin and continued his career as a patternmaker and patternmaker foreman at Allis-Chalmers, West Allis, WI for 33 years until his retirement in 1981. He served on the Hales Corners school board, a council member for Emanuel Church for many years, past member of Toastmasters, and a member of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Foundry Society. He was a volunteer naturalist at Wehr Nature Center, Hales Corners and active in the Riveredge Bird Club, Newburg and Lac Lawrann.

He was a member of New Hope UCC in Jackson, WI and a former member of Immanuel UCC in West Bend and Emanuel UCC in Hales Corners. He raised pigeons, enjoyed woodworking, traveled by motor home around the Southwest with his wife, watched and fed birds, but enjoyed gardening most of all. A weed didn't stand a chance in his gardens.

Survivors include daughters, Virginia (Keith) Edwards, Hacienda Heights, CA and Eileen (Ted) Landmann, Appleton; grandchildren Jon (Marcia) Edwards, Rebecca (Osvaldo) Rodriguez, David (Candace) Edwards, Jennifer (Steven) Littlefield, Paul (Elizabeth) Landmann; great grandchildren Mikaela, Jacob, E.J., Andrew, Alyssa, Kimberly, Emma, Abigail and Hannah; sister in laws Ruth (Clarence) Groth, Betty Smith, Joyce Smith and Shirley Kollmeyer; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at New Hope UCC, in Jackson, Wisconsin, with Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Cemetery, Cedarburg. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
