Darwin R. Daniels

May 1, 1926 — April 7, 2016

Darwin R. Daniels, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Elder Lodge Assisted Living in Neenah. Darwin was born on May 1, 1926, son of the late Charles and Edith (Messman) Daniels. He proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army, and was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He received his honorable discharge in 1952, and was a longtime member of the Jacob Coppus Post #258 of the American Legion. After returning home from the Army, he worked at Foremost Dairies on Prospect Avenue in Appleton until his retirement. Many will remember Darwin as a patient, thoughtful, and generous man. If you knew him, you loved him. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing sheepshead and cribbage. Darwin was also a history and science fiction buff.

He will be deeply missed by Nancy Baumann, Debbie Hoffmann, Anthony (Janice) Hoffmann, his Godchild Andrew Hoffmann, Jenni (Chad) Waldo, Jackie Morton, Jessica (Robert) Lomibao, and Ian Morton, as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles and Daniel; sisters Lucille, Phyllis, Frieda, and Eleanor; lifelong friends and family: Claire (Leona) Baumann; his previous caregiver and buddy: Keith Fergot; and by many other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Darwin on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, beginning at 2:00 PM. Visitation will conclude with full military honors being provided at 5:00 PM.

Thank you to the staff at Elder Lodge Assisted Living and everyone at Hospice Advantage. We appreciate the care, concern, and love shown to Darwin while he was in your tender care.

Darwin, you were our uncle out of love, not by blood. Thank you for always being there for us. We will never forget your love, generosity, and fun memories. We miss you. Love, Nancy and Debbie.
