Jack Limpert left a message on March 13, 2011:
Danny and I were cousins. He was 10 years older and we both lived in Appleton. In 1953 I dropped out of the U of Wisconsin, did two years in the Air Force, and in 1956 was back in Appleton, not sure what to do next. I ran into Danny at a bowling alley, he asked what I was up to, and I told him I’d probably go back to school at the UW extension center. He said he needed a weekend bartender at George’s Steakhouse and was I interested. I sure was, and he taught me how to mix drinks and I saw how good he was at dealing with people. One memory: he had a great singing voice. Near closing time someone would ask him to sing “Danny Boy,” and the bar got very quiet as he sang it. His giving me a chance to work with him changed my life. I worked my way through the U of Wisconsin, and people I met tending bar offered me a job in journalism. I’ve had a wonderful career, and it wouldn’t have happened without Danny’s guidance and generosity. A good cousin, a very good man. Rest in peace.
