Age 81, passed away at Colony Oaks in Appleton on Monday, July 13, 2009. He was born in Kaukauna on August 23, 1927 the son of the late Clarence and Loretta (Hoks) Kieffer. On February 3, 1983 he married Ila Mae Burt in Kimberly. Clay worked at American Can for over 30 years. He loved the Green Bay Packers, hunting, fishing and golf. He will be remembered for his jokes and sense of humor.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ila Mae Kieffer; children: Kathleen (Jim) Wisnefski of Oconomowoc, Karen Holden of Waukesha and Michael (Pam) Kieffer of Lake City, MN; grandchildren: Michael Wisnefski stationed in Beaufort, SC for the U.S. Navy, Sarah Wisnefski of Oconomowoc, Amy Kieffer of Thornton, CO; Kristine Kieffer of Thornton, CO; and Anthony Kieffer of Lake City, MN; brothers and sisters: Ila Kieffer of Tuscon, AZ; twin brother, Clyde (Jeanne) Kieffer of Appleton, Dolores Kieffer of Nashville, Howard (Betty Jean) Kieffer of Marinette, Elizabeth (Marc) Nigl of Kaukauna; half brother, Austin (Mary) Wheaton of Larson; and half-sister, Judy (Ken) LaRue of Weyawega; and stepchildren: Joyce (Larry) Castrop of Larsen, Donald (Helen) Jansen of Appleton, David (Diane) Jansen of Appleton, Roger (Kristine) Jansen of Greenleaf, and Christine (Larry) Schiltz of Neenah; and many relatives and good friends. He is preceded in death by his stepson, Michael Jansen.
The memorial service will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, with Mr. Michael Kieffer officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family extends a special thank you to Colony Oaks and Theda Care Hospice for their compassionate, care and service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Clayton's name is being established for the Literacy Coalition.
