Clara C. Nieling

June 29, 1905 — November 14, 2003

Age 98, died Friday afternoon November 14, 2003, following a very brief illness. She was born June 29, 1905, to the late Arnold and Anna (Gerrits) Van Dyke, in Wrightstown and had been an Appleton resident for over 60 years. Clara married Martin W. Nieling on May 29, 1934; he preceded her in death on August 3, 1989. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and growing flowers. Clara and her husband, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters and their spouses had celebrated fifty years of marriage. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and it’s Ladies Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Audrey Miller, Appleton; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Mary Nieling, Kimberly; five grandchildren, Edward (Kristine) Miller, Menasha; Virginia (Chris) Steffes, Green Bay; Julie (David) Gloudemans, Lititz, PA; James (Sara) Nieling, Combined Locks; Jennifer (Brian) DeWall, Hayward, WI; seven great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Colin and Spencer Gloudemans, Ryan and Ana Nieling, Tristan and Levi DeWall; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Richard Van Dyke, Kaukauna; Harvey and Irene Van Dyke, Kaukauna; Robert and Doris Van Dyke, Appleton; a sister and brother-in-law, Alrita and John Wisneski, Freedom; a sister-in-law, Clara Van Dyke, Green Bay; best friends, Rosella Miller and Donna Nelessen, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine (August) Meulemans, Leona (John “Cookie”) Van De Leygraaf, a brother, Clarence Van Dyke and a son-in-law, Robert G. Miller.

Funeral services for Clara will be held at 11:00 am. Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Morrison Street, with Father William Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Monday and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday. A memorial fund is being established.
