Charles R. Apitz

September 18, 1929 — April 2, 2003

Age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at his home. Charles was born September 18, 1929 in Appleton, son of the late Paul Apitz and Ella (Hephner) Apitz of Menasha. During the Korean Conflict, Charles served his county as a member of the United States Army, and was stationed with Company H of the 160th Infantry Division. On September 14, 1957, he married the former Lois Josephs in Appleton; she survives. Charles was employed at the Brillion Iron Works for more than thirty years. He and Lois also operated a 40-acre farm in the Sherwood area. He was a longtime and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as the Sherwood American Legion Post #496. Charles was an avid fisherman, enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, and followed the NASCAR races.

Charles is survived by his mother: Ella Apitz of the Sherwood area; his wife: Lois Apitz of Sherwood; two daughters: Alice Apitz of Appleton her special friend Paul Gilbertson; Jean Apitz of Appleton and her special friend Jerry Bushman; a son: Paul Apitz of Appleton and his special friend Charlotte Kain; a granddaughter: Elizabeth Apitz of Appleton; brothers and sisters: Grace Wittmann of Kaukauna and Fritz (Joyce) Apitz of Sherwood. Charles is also survived by Lois’ siblings: Cora Veeser of Appleton; John (Barbara) Josephs of Vilas County. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Loretta Josephs of Appleton and Gerrine Josephs of Neenah. Charles was preceded in death by his father, brothers-in-law Rollie Wittmann, Martin Josephs, Thomas Josephs, and Robert Veeser.

Funeral services will be held at 7 PM on Monday, April 7, 2003 at the funeral home chapel with Fr. Kenneth Frozena officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 PM until the hour of the service.
