Van Hoof, Catherine W.

Catherine died at her home, surrounded by her family, in Hollandtown where she had lived with her husband, Joseph for 54 years. Joe preceded her in death on July 11, 2008. She was born on a farm near Forest Junction to the late Anthony and Mary (McDonnell) School. A graduate of Brillion High School, she began her studies at Longfellow School. In 1940 the family moved to Brillion. Catherine worked in photographic studios before her marriage and later in the lab at White Clover Dairy. She was a good bowler and golfer and she had a great sense of humor. She was a member of St. Francis Parish. She will be fondly remembered for her 4H speech instruction for many members of the community.

She is survived by her five children: Dennis (Jean) Van Hoof, Sheboygan, Mary Borree, Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey, Jim Van Hoof, Hollandtown, Sue (Dan) Voet, Kaukauna and Joanie Van Hoof, Menasha; seven grandchildren: Mike and Katie Van Hoof, Max Borree, Hannah and Joey Van Hoof and Jack and Mary Voet. She is further survived by her sister: Grace School, Appleton; and sisters-in-law: Delores School, Green Bay; Ann DeCoster, Little Chute, Lillian (Tony) Van Wychen, Marian Ragen, Liz Van Hoof and a brother-in-law: Donald Van Hoof, all of Kaukauna, many nieces and nephews and many friends, a special friend and caregiver, Ellen Scheibe, DePere and Elsie and Bill Harrison of Wolverhampton, England. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, two brothers, Jerome and Gordon School and a nephew, Douglas School; brothers-in-law: Norbert Van Hoof, Larry DeCoster and Ronald “Red” Ragen; and a nephew: Pat Ragen; a sister-in-law, Marge School, and an aunt, Kit McDonnell.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, at St. Katharine Drexel, St. Francis site, 433 County Trunk CE, Hollandtown. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. on Thursday until the time of mass at the church. She will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in her name.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all the hard working ThedaCare At Home Hospice staff for enabling to keep Mom at home, and a special thank you to Dr. Bruce Danz and his nurse, Sue, for all their compassionate care.
