Catherine M. De Wildt

July 18, 1919 — December 24, 2007

Catherine De Wildt, age 88 of Kimberly passed away peacefully on Monday, December 24, 2007 at Franciscan Care. She was born July 18, 1919, in Freedom, daughter of the late John and Catherine (Hooyman) Newhouse. Catherine married her loving late husband of sixty-four years, Adrian “Ade” De Wildt, on June 21st, 1941; he preceded her in death in 2005. Her dedication to her family’s well-being and household shined through in her love for baking, cooking, canning, and taking care of her grandchildren. She passed along her recipes for apple pie and German potato salad which were always favorites and family gatherings. Beyond Catherine’s meticulous housekeeping, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events along with her husband Ade. Her one hope and request for her family was for them to continue on her same path of faith in the Lord.

Catherine is survived by three daughters: Mary Kae (Tom) Schmit, Charlotte (Juan) Diaz, and Jane (Jim) Van Hammond; ten grandchildren: Jodi (Jon) Tate, Dale Schmit, Pam (Bill) Hall, Tina Diaz, Jason (Kelly) Diaz, Heather Diaz, Jeff (Rachelle) Van Hammond, Kelley Van Hammond, Jamie (Lisa) Van Hammond, Kari Vande Wettering; fourteen great-grandchildren and one more soon to arrive. Five sisters-in-law: Clara Newhouse, Dorothy (Rich) Evers, Ione Schommer, Joyce (Ron) McCann, Rose (Joe) Dietzen, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her sister Trudy (Bill) Noffke, her brother Emmett Newhouse; five half brothers and sisters; sister-in-law: Anna (Sylvester) VandenBoogard; and three brothers-in-law: Henry, Joseph, and Clement De Wildt; and a nephew: Bruce Evers.
