Catherine F. Kortz, age 91, of Kaukauna, died Sunday morning, January 9, 2005, at Kindred Hearts, with her family at her side. She was born December 31, 1913, to the late Bernard and Mary (Coenen) Vander Heiden, in the Township of Kaukauna, and had been an area resident all of her life. She married Kirby C. Kortz on May 20, 1939, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown. Catherine and her husband farmed in the Town of Freedom for 40 years on the Kortz Homestead. She had also been employed by the Golden Yolk Egg Ranch, until she retired at the age of 70. Catherine had been a long time volunteer for the American Cancer Society, St. Paul Home, Holy Cross Church and School, she was a leader of Nitingale 4-H and a member of the Outagamie County 4-H Leaders Association. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and going to breakfast with family and friends following Sunday Mass. Catherine was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, Altar Society, Lady Foresters and was a long standing Prayer Partner. Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, William and Helen Kortz, Kaukauna; Roy and Susan Kortz, Waupaca; James and Linda Kortz, Kaukauna; Leon and Carol Kortz, Cincinnati, OH; Mark and Jan Kortz, Kaukauna; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Gene Vander Heiden, Kaukauna; Mary and Joseph Lom, Appleton; Carol and John Pilgrim, Oconomowoc, WI; 16 grandchildren, David (Sheila) Vander Heiden, Dan (Dawn) Vander Heiden, Duane (Laurie) Vander Heiden, Dean (Linda) Vander Heiden, Ann (Bob) Laatsch, Lynn (David) Bustamante, Dr. Barbara Lom, Christine (Craig) Moore, Sara Jo (Scott) Withrow, Jay Kortz, Mike Kortz, Chad, Ryan, Marissa and Tyler Kortz and Caren Pilgrim; 16 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Rosella Vander Heiden, Neenah; four sisters-in-law, Mary Vander Heiden, Virginia Weyenberg, Rosella Kortz and Amoretta Kortz, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kirby C. Kortz on November 3, 1985, four brothers, Francis Vander Heiden, Richard (Anna) Vander Heiden, Leo Vander Heiden and Edward (Melvina) Vander Heiden, in-laws, Olive (John) Joosten, Clifford Kortz, Myrtle (Raymond) Bowers, Orin Kortz and Matt Weyenberg. The funeral liturgy for Catherine will be held at 12:00 pm (Noon), Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, with Father Jack Mullarky officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 – 8 pm, Tuesday and on Wednesday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the Mass. A memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of Kindred Hearts and Affinity Visiting Nurses Hospice, for their loving care and support of Catherine.
