Age 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton. Catherine was born in Forest Junction on February 12, 1912, daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Jackels) Micke. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtown and was a member of the Altar Society. For many years, she was employed by White Clover Dairy. At the age of thirty-seven, Catherine began to make her home with her very special sister, Marion Broeren and her family. She resided with the Broerens until moving to Golden Venture Apartments. Catherine enjoyed music, dancing, and winning at sheepshead. Many will remember her for her excellent work ethic and her neat and tidy manner. She was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.

She is survived by four sisters: Marion Broeren of Kaukauna; Gertrude Van Dyke of Kaukauna; Sr. Mary Grace Micke of Manitowoc; Betty (Ray) Sanders of Little Chute; a brother: John “Jack” Micke of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: Orrin Romenesko of Appleton; a sister-in-law: Jeanette Micke of Breckenridge, Minnesota. Catherine is also survived by four very special nieces and nephews: Judy (Bob) Eiting of Embarrass; Jerry (Shirley) Broeren of Kaukauna; Bob (Karen) Broeren of Hollandtown; Karen (John) Ploederl of Kaukauna. Her great-nieces and great-nephews were very important to Catherine; they treated her like a second grandmother. They include: Lynn Gerrits, Elmer (Peggy) Eiting, Cheryl (Ken) Hammen, Scott Eiting, Chad (Kim) Broeren, Craig (Sunshine) Broeren, Robyn Broeren and her special friend Jim, Beth Otto, Bobby Broeren, and Shannon, Jeremy, and Mandy Ploederl. Other survivors include numerous other nieces and nephews, as well as a godchild Bruce Romenesko. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sylvester Micke, Leo Micke, Joseph (Minnie) Micke, and Alphonse Micke; sisters Mildred Romenesko and Agnes (Louis) Mischler; a sister-in-law Audrey Micke; brothers-in-law Clayton Van Dyke and Gib Broeren; and an infant great-nephew Ashley Broeren.

The funeral liturgy for Catherine will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at ST. FRANCIS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandtown with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the liturgy.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Colony Oaks Care Center, Fr. Jack Mullarkey, Fr. Jim Lucas, and Dr. Rasmussen, Dr. Schreiber, and Dr. Madden for their kindness and support.
