A life-long resident of Appleton, Ed graduated from Appleton High School (West) and UW-Whitewater with a B.S. in Business Administration. He worked for 28 years in the graphic arts business at Northwestern Colorgraphics/Banta Digital under the tutelage of his father and Richard Calder. Ed volunteered at the Siekman Cancer Center at AMC and was a youth mentor for a special boy named Jeremy.
Ed was a loving and caring husband and father and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. He only wanted the best for others and was quick to lend a helping hand. He was the family photographer, a whiz at the computer and Trivial Pursuit, (known as the ‘trivia master’), an avid crossword puzzle worker and read every word of TIME magazine. He also greatly enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations. A highlight of Ed’s summer was participating in the West Bend Relay for Life Cancer fund-raiser. Before his death, he said, “I shall leave with many fond memories of family and friends, but non will be finer than the bridge games with Sharon and Bob in the gazebos of the Courtyards we visited on our summer trips. Although too late, I finally understand the “jump-shift” bid!

Friends and family may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, on October 2, 2002, and again at church one hour prior to the service. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen St., Appleton, 11:00 am on Thursday, October 3rd, 2002. Burial will take place following the service at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Carlton E. Kuck Nursing Scholarship fund at the Fox Cities Community Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

The family wishes to thank Drs. Anthony Phillips, Robert Makeever and their wonderful staff for their caring and compassion during Ed’s illness. They are true angels of kindness.
Good-bye, my dear, our hearts are heavy with sadness as we grieve. We miss you terribly. But you are at peace and suffer no more. Since you got there first, save us a place, we’ll join you when the Lord calls.
Love, Your family

I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remember joy
Of a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
And yet the things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much-
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undo grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free!
