Carl F. Rohloff

November 3, 1921 — December 25, 2004

Rohloff, Carl F.

A Christmas gift of Eternal Life was bestowed on Carl the morning of December 25, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Carl was born on November 3, 1921 son of the late Paul and Meta (Schulz) Rohloff, and grew up on their rural Appleton farm. He served in the US Armed Forces from 1943 to 1952 and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Carl worked as an operating engineer and later as a mason in Milwaukee and the Fox River Valley. He completed his career at the Outagamie County Courthouse in the Maintenance Department from 1975 to 1987. Carl was married to Bernice Wilcox on March 20, 1965 and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2001. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton and of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion in Appleton. Carl enjoyed Canadian fishing trips, hunting and gardening until he and Bernice retired to Florida in 1987. They then spent their summers on Chute Pond in Mountain, WI. Carl and Bernice returned permanently to live in Appleton in 2000 to be near family and friends.
He is survived by his step-daughter Louise (James) Alsteen of Iola, WI; two granddaughters: Delanie (Jason) McGlone of Appleton, and Erin (Craig) Newhouse of Onalaska, WI; two great granddaughters: Casey Marshall and Allyson McGlone; four sisters: Louise (Arnold) Albrecht, Ruth Smith, Alice (Elroy) Peterson, and Marion (Richard) Hinz; four brothers: Paul (Clydene) Rohloff, Jr., Robert Rohloff, Harvey Rohloff, and Kenneth Rohloff, Sr., and a brother-in-law Erwin Hansen. Carl was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Hansen, and a great grandson Gavin Newhouse.
The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 North Superior Street with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hospice at Cherry Meadows and Theda Care at Home for the kindness they showed to Carl.
