Carl E Schroeder

December 15, 1927 — May 19, 2015

Carl E. Schroeder, 87, Appleton, passed away on May 19, 2015 as the result of an automobile accident. Carl was born on December 15, 1927, one of eight children in the Town of Harrison to Charles and Ella (Kasten) Schroeder. He went to Red Star School, which was an old fashioned one room school house. After he finished school, he helped work the family farm. He married the former Lois Jean Mauthe at St. Therese Catholic Church on July 18, 1953 and Lois preceded him in death. On February 5, 1994 he married his second wife, Therese at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Carl was a longtime employee of Automotive Supply both in Appleton and Kaukauna. He even opened the store in Kaukauna and managed that store. Carl was a very giving man who always sacrificed himself for his family and friends. He would snowblow his neighbor's drive before his own and always loved sharing the bounty of his garden with others. If you knocked on Carl's door, he would usually answer with a cold beer. Always hospitable. Always sharing.

Carl had an awesome work ethic and always saw the value of hard work. He also had a love of nature. He loved growing vegetables and flowers. He loved birdwatching and had many bird houses and bird feeders in his yard. He also loved to bake. He was a nationally ranked Cribbage player and was a long time member of the Tuesday Cribbage League at the Stone Toad.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Therese, children: Carla (John) Johann of Appleton; Connie Schroeder of Franklin Wisconsin; William “Bill” (Lisa) Schroeder of Whitefish Bay Wisconsin, Therese's son Mike McGinnis of Brooklyn Park Minnesota, grandchildren: Tina Johann of West Allis; Lindsay Schroeder of Whitefish Bay; Colin Schroeder of Whitefish Bay, sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Mrs. Harold) Schroeder; Dorothy (Mrs. Gilbert) Schroeder; Marlene (Mrs. Julius) Schroeder, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lois, Therese's children Patrick and John McGinnis and his siblings: Harold Schroeder; Howard (Ardell) (Jane) Schroeder; Gordon (Betty) Schroeder; Gilbert Schroeder; twin brother Carlton Schroeder; Dorothy (Gilbert) Tetzlaff; Julius Schroeder.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1818 N. McDonald Street in Appleton on Friday May 22, 2015 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately at 11:00 am with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. For more information and to express online condolences, please visit www.wichmannfargo.com.
