John Braun left a message on November 23, 2013:

Dear Family,
I was told of Dr. Heyl's passing many months afterwards. My most sincere condolences. Bruce and I had a special bond. I 1st met him when I was in grade school in Green Bay (late 70s) I helped to tie up his boat. He told me that was one heck of a knot :). Little did I know our paths would cross again many years later. He became a potential father in law, mentor, and great guy! I can't thank him enough for soo many life lessons. He impacts my life to this day. I don't ever see that ending until I depart this earth. RIP Bruce. God bless you and your family. John Braun

My sincere sympathy to my dear cousin, Diana, and to each of you.. Bruce's family. I know that he enriched the lives of so many, both personally and professionally..those fortunate enough to have been a part of his life. I consider it such a privelege to have known Bruce..his love and appreciation for his family, his strength and integrity, his warmth and compassion, his humor..He was truly a gentleman. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you..May you find peace and comfort in his memory, and in each other. Respectfully, Miriam
Scott Peterson left a message on September 10, 2009:
Bruce was one of the most amazing people I've ever met. He brought me under his wing when I was a rookie sailer and every Tuesday during the summer we shared our lives on the water. I looked forward to hearing about his passion for life and stories about his past. He had a story and joke for every situation. I will share stories about Bruce for the rest of my life and he will always be close to my heart. Scott Peterson

I would like to offer my Condolences to the family of Dr. Heyl.I was a patient of Dr. Heyl's. I want to let the family know how much he helped me.He was not the typical Doctor to me,he talked like a normal person and a friend. I will miss that.He had time for you and never once did He rush me out from an appointment. In the time I knew him he gave me incentives.I admired him greatly. As far as I see it,everyone of his Loved Ones has every Right to hang their heads high and proudly, because your loved one, Dr Heyl was a super man and there will never be a True Replacement for HIM .Our prayers and God's Blessings are with you All.

Diana, and family I worked with Dr. Heyl At St E's since 1982. He was one of the most loved physicians I have ever worked with. I saw more patients get well under his care. Behind his wonderful sense of humor, was a brillant man. He talked about his family often. He loved life, his family and his patients. I weep for your loss, and the passing of a man that made such a difference in so many lives. May your wonderful memories of his life comfort you in this sad time. Sally L Rathert, RN

Dr Heyl was a wonderful Psychiatrist. He had just the right combination of no nonsense with compassion. I remember many times paging him when on call while he was sailing or at a Packer game. My sincere sympathy to the family. I feel fortunate to have worked with him.

I worked with Dr. Heyl as an RN on 5 East. Dr Heyl was one of the best psychiatrist I have ever worked with, and I have worked with many. His patients got well and stayed well on a minimum of medications and he really cared about his patients, really liked them and respected them. I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to know him and work with him. He will be greatly missed.

_______WELL MAY THE WORLD GO_______ Well may the world go, The world go,the world go. Well may the world go, Since he's gone away. Fresh may the breezes blow, Gently may the currents flow As from this life, the sailors go Since he's gone away. Well may the bagpipes play Reminding us throughout each day The gifts Bruce left during his stay Since he's gone away. One thing that we all now know Bruce's voice will follow where we go fond memories will be remembered every day Since he's gone away. I sing and pray-it's not too late To all join here to celebrate The gifts of Bruce-his special traits! Since he's gone away. . A very appreciative patient for twelve years. Steck

I had just finished residency training in psychiatry and was in practice down the hall. I was worried because I had a "light" morning with few patients. Bruce said, "Don't worry about the slow times you'll be busy soon enough. Go outside and enjoy the morning." As usual, he was right.
