Bronnie E. Stroud

August 21, 1923 — November 8, 2017

Missionary to Africa, pastor, husband, father, linguist, educator, grandfather, son, great-grandfather, adventurer, a man of unfailing affection, self-sacrifice and kindness, Bronnie Ellis Stroud passed peacefully surrounded by his children November 8, 2017 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Born to Bronnie Hicks and Sara Christina (Ellis) Stroud of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bronnie is survived by his four children Judith, John, Joy and Jim, 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. After a marriage of 71 years he was preceded in death by his wife Annabelle Francis (Dorman) Stroud.

Twice he crossed the Atlantic on a ship with his family — for the adventure. He hiked and biked along dusty paths to rural villages in northern Ghana, where he developed an orthography and syntax for a previously unwritten language, translated the gospel of Mark and founded more than 25 now thriving churches. Later he led the Southern Ghana Bible Institute where he trained ministers and continued to found local parishes. He held numerous church leadership positions in Ghana and Wisconsin, and pastored Assemblies of God congregations in Park Forest, Illinois and Appleton, Oshkosh, Rice Lake, Tomah, Clintonville, Waupaca and Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

Bronnie Stroud graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1940 and holds a degree from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.
