Beverly Bergsma

May 5, 1929 — October 15, 2014

Beverly L. Bergsma, age 85, passed away with her family by her side at Cherry Meadows Hospice on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. She was born on May 5, 1929, to the late Ernest and Kathryn Peterson in Muskegon, Michigan. While growing up, she loved to fish on the piers of Lake Michigan and had a passion for high school sports. Beverly graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in 1950 and was a lifelong U of M football fan. She married Dan Bergsma on August 16, 1952, and they spent 62 years together. Beverly worked as a nurse while the family moved around the Midwest before settling in Appleton in 1982. She was active in several charitable organizations throughout her lifetime and was a member at First Congregational UCC and Butte des Morts Country Club. Beverly always loved being social by playing bridge with many of her friends as well as golfing and bowling. Most important to her was her family. Beverly took great pleasure in arranging annual family reunions by planning trips for her children and grandchildren. Together, they were able to go on a cruise in the Caribbean, a dude ranch in Colorado, and many other adventures. Beverly was loved dearly by her family, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Bergsma of Appleton; children, Dan (Teena) Bergsma of Sleepy Hollow, IL and Kathi McKeough of Albany, NY; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bergsma of Appleton; grandchildren, Carey (Henry) Sias of Philadelphia, Marie (Ben) McPherson of Lake In The Hills, IL, Kevin McKeough of Albany, NY, Lauren McKeough of New York City, Aaron Bergsma of Madison, and Abby Bergsma of San Diego. Beverly is further survived by her sister, Delores (Ralph) Plont of Ravenna, MI; sister-in-law, Trudie Turnquist of Grand Rapids, MI; Pat McKeough of Albany, NY, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Ron Bergsma.
