Betty R. Bootz

August 24, 1926 — November 20, 2021

Betty Ruth Bootz met her Lord on the morning of Saturday, November 20th, 2021 at ThedaCare in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Betty was born August 24, 1926 in Marinette, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Esther (Ehlers) and Henry Braun, god-fearing parents. She was baptized September 19, 1926 at St. John Church in Grover, Wisconsin. In that sacrament her sins were forgiven and faith was her gift. She was confirmed in March of 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marinette, Wisconsin.

She graduated from Marinette High in 1944. Betty loved spending time with her cousins and relatives on the family farm in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.

At age 18 she left for Washington D.C. and served her country by working for the Pentagon. She met her future husband Myron Bootz in 1946 and they married and lived in Illinois for 5 years before moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Betty and her husband Myron were charter members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Green Bay. After moving to Appleton, Betty joined Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

At age 43, Betty went back to school where she received her nursing degree. She worked in the ICU at Appleton Medical Center (AMC) caring for their first open heart surgery patients. After leaving AMC she worked for 20 years at Franciscan Care Center and retired at the age of 74.

She enjoyed singing, teaching her children and grandchildren to sing “You Are My Sunshine,” playing the hum-strum, bridge, golf, snowmobiling, and water sports while living at her home on White Potato Lake. She especially enjoyed the warm summer days and pontoon boat rides around the lake. It was a morning treat to see the loons while enjoying her first cup of coffee. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining her family and her many close and dear friends. Betty had a quick wit, was very adventurous, and never turned down an opportunity to travel. She loved to laugh and was grateful for all her blessings.

She passed on her great faith in Jesus Christ to her children and grandchildren. She was a sweet tender-hearted person and her children felt so blessed to be able to call her “Mom.”

We will miss you.

Betty is survived by her son Michael Henry (Barbara), her son Mark (Char), her daughter Mary (Bootz) McSorley, her son Steven (Deb), and her son Matthew; her grandchildren Tracy, Jon (Jane), Michael Paul (Sarah), Andrew (Leah) McSorley, 8 great grand-children, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Glenda (Al) Banaszynski.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Bootz; stepmother, Hazel Braun; sonin-law, Jeffrey McSorley; and daughter in law, Kathy Bootz.

“I leave those who survive me the comfort of knowing that I have died in his faith and have now joined my Lord in eternal glory. I ask my children whom I love and who have brought me great joy, never to forget these instructions of Christ: Share God’s word of salvation with everyone at home and wherever you go into this world.”
